International One Design (IOD)

The IOD class is one of Bermuda's oldest fleets, established by five boats in 1938. Today's fleet consists of 14 boats: 12 are privately owned and 2 are maintained by the Bermuda IOD Fleet. This classic design boat was born out of the desire to have a small displacement-hull sailboat based on the larger six-metre yachts of the 1930s. The IOD was designed and built in Norway by Bjarne Aas. This is the traditional boat that is used to compete for the King Edward VII Gold Cup and many of the World's top match racers have earned their stripes in the IOD. Inquiries about crew spots and charter opportunities should go to the Bda Fleet directly.
